The Nerdery - Overnight Website Challenge

Chicago 2015, May 2-3

Project Seth, Ltd.

We created Project Seth after losing our son, Seth, in June of 2014 to suicide and realizing this is an epidemic needing more attention from people willing to reach out and create dialog with young adults, schools, and communities. The effects of suicide in the young adult population is staggering. We can give young adults the tools and resources to seek immediate help from reliable and effective local resources. We hold events that allow teens and young adults to socialize with their peers, survivors, and counselors as well. We hope by holding such events they may find themselves among people they can build trust and relationships. We also foresee social media helping to encourage and strengthen their belief in themselves, their talents, their community, and their voice.

What new functionality we are looking for

Our wish list is:

Calendar of events with link to ticket sales and details for each events

Direct donations to bank without use of third party who takes percentage of donation

Social media feeds/stream and media gallery

Links to news articles and other websites, also sponsors

Ability to link and pull up pdf files

Abundance of pictures, music, and videos engaging the audience

Direct sell of items

Email to direct address other than Gmail accounts.

How the new functionality will help

A new website will allow us to engage our youth audience while also allowing us to field any unanswered questions or concerns by possible donors, sponsors, and community figures. It will also allow us to spread the word about events and Project Seth without using Facebook as the primary means.

How our organization will use the technology

Who will use the technology

What a great website! A great cause! So many people fail to realize that someone out there does care! This website will provide a place for people to come in their lowest moments.

2015-04-12 20:03:05 UTC

A great resource for helping many! I hope the website can continue to be developed and become a meaningful support for teens and others.

What a great cause. I hope you get the much deserved support that you need.

It Is amazing that people are finally starting to shed some light on this tragic issue. No matter who you are, there is always someone who cares. Thank you so much and God Bless.

This website shows that there's people out there who care, who take time to help people who are suicidal, everybody has bad thoughts in their life, and in that time of thoughts they need people to encourage them to push forward, and this perfectly demonstrates that. Project Seth is an amazing thing.

2015-03-21 21:50:23 UTC

In a society where suicide rates are rising, so little is being done to help those who are the most vulnerable. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people 14-25. This group is helping those who need help, and those who have lost someone to suicide, come together and heal. To get the help needed. Please help them make their website what it needs to be. Thank you.

2015-03-21 21:17:52 UTC

I support thIs website because after loosing two people close to me in less than a year due to suicide, it had come to my attention that something needed to be done. Having this website brings them a step closer to spreading the word about suicide. Many out there feel they have no where to turn to, this will give them a place to turn. A place where they can feel safe; a place where others will be by there side to support them, to let them know they are worthy, that they are good enough. Please help this website help many others out there seeking for help; it'd mean the world to me and many, many others.

2015-03-21 22:21:17 UTC

It. Nobody talks about it. Each suffers it alone. If one doesn't know where to turn for help with it they don't turn anywhere. We can't see it in our friends because we don't know what it looks like. Project Seth aims to upset the status quo. Talk about it. Together. Be available. Link together. Recognize it. See it coming. Stop it. Project Seth is "we". Not "you alone by yourself". Fight isolation. Fight stigma. Fight silence. Fight suicide.

2015-03-21 22:25:19 UTC

Project Seth plans fun and engaging events, like the chili cookoff and haloween party, to bring youth together and shine light on a scary and dark place that too many youth are confronted with.

Suicide is a very real and increasingly common thought among teens and even younger kids in today's society. Feeling like you have nobody to talk to, nowhere to go, and nobody who understands what's going through your head can be intimidating and incredibly isolating. Project Seth strives to change that. Knowing that there is an entire organization behind what you're going through gives you hope and a feeling of belonging. The events they host are fun and unique. You can feel the love and togetherness in the gathering of people. Project Seth deserves a website makeover because we need to attract as many people as we can. Time is running out for some kids, but maybe if they saw how many other people are going through it, they would change their mind. Project Seth CAN save lives!

The epidemic in youth suicide is not someone else's problem far, far away. It's OUR problem. In OUR community. We need to break the silence and address it. In his short life, Seth instilled self worth in those around him when they weren't feeling good about themselves. Seth touched so many people in his life because he cared about those around him. Project Seth aims to keep Seth's legacy alive by continuing to reach those who need help. We need to stop losing our friends, loved ones to something that IS preventable. These young adults are our future. We can't stand back and do nothing. We need to provide them with the support they need. Project Seth is a new start up Not For Profit that wants to make a difference. A website is a key component in reaching those who want to help Project Seth in their mission or those IN NEED of help. The Nerdery, please help us build this very important tool!

2015-03-22 15:18:34 UTC

Project Seth will be able to further engage youth and young adults in a community with limited resources with a more effective and user friendly website. The ability to share pictures, videos, event sign up, and resources and information will allow for a broader spectrum of outreach. This is going to be a great push to a young non-for-profit on their way to help so many fight the silence. Support. Empower. Teach. Honor.

Project Seth is an amazing thing that has taken a families life and his given them a sense of comfort. Seth's life is remembered everyday for how AMAZING of a man his parents raised him to be. This oppurtunity could be a breath of fresh air so they continue to feel the support after a lot of time has passed. Suicide is REAL, and project SETH, could be a safe haven for future boys and gals who have the same thoughts Seth did, and they will know they arent alone. Project Seth could save lives.

2015-03-22 19:05:17 UTC

Project Seth is working to reach out to kids and their website is one of the best ways to get the word out to those afraid and not knowing where to turn. The Project seeks to keep resources at an easy reach for those in need and constantly alert us to warning signs.

2015-03-23 03:55:47 UTC

What could be a better cause than keeping kids alive? Our communities are ill equipped to help someone with thoughts of suicide. Please help Project Seth be able to reach these kids. Please help them with their website. Suicide is 100% preventable, but only if they know where to get help.

2015-03-23 21:01:56 UTC

I can't think of a more deserving cause... Suicide is a leading cause of death in young adults, outreach is needed to let these young people know there is hope

2015-03-23 21:29:21 UTC

This is an amazing and necessary organization headed by people with passion and drive. Please help them reach more young people!

2015-03-23 23:11:36 UTC

Please help this organization as it gains traction to help people in need. This is the start of something big and important in the community. Project Seth will someday help save someones life, no more needs to be said.

2015-03-24 02:15:14 UTC

Please support Project Seth. Save lives.

2015-03-24 19:07:55 UTC

Suicide. The unspoken epidemic. No one wants to talk about it, no one wants to hear about it. Well, unless everyone can open up and realize this is TRULY a problem within young adults today, it will continue. You may have never been personally affected by this tragedy, but I guarantee you know someone who has.
Project Seth is here to help, even if it's just one single person. Mental Health research links, awareness, signs and help lines are available on Project Seth. Help them make this site interactive for their needs.

2015-03-24 20:20:10 UTC

People who are contemplating suicide are often times reaching out, searching for answers, or seeking help. Project Seth is a resource for those in need with the goal of providing support while helping establish a person’s self-worth . People in this state of mind are looking for a sense of belonging and want to know they are special. Project Seth strives to provide this resource.

Young adults and teens use the internet as a main stream of communication. What better way to educate them than Project Seth!

2015-03-25 02:30:09 UTC

IF THIS SUBJECT DOES NOT HIT YOU HARD, THEN YOU ARE BLIND TO YOUR SURROUNDINGS! Today is 3/24/15, my son turned 18 TODAY. When my son was 15, he told us that he was going to kill himself. That made us think, we got a warning, he vented. What if he didn't? My nephew tried it, and we never saw it. He is still here with us today, but what IF. My daughter had a fellow classmate cutting herself. Do WE see the signs? What are they? Everyone thinks "it won't happen to me". Is it happily ever after? Suicide of our be-loved teens is REAL. This NON-profit site needs the extra boost to take it to the next level. That level might just save YOUR teenager.

2015-03-24 19:05:22 UTC

The people behind project Seth are passionate with a purpose. They are busy people who have felt the personal effects of suicide on their lives. They are focused on making sure that no other family need go through this. They are determined to help educate and prevent young people from taking such a drastic measure. I cannot think of anyone more deserving of the help this could provide them with their website. Help them Help spread the word about Suicide Provention! Project Seth is reaching into the lives of our youth!

A report was published by the CDC (Center for Disease Control)on April 22, 1994 titled: "Programs for the Prevention of Suicide Among Adolescents and Young Adults." In this report it stated the following as a finding:
Suicide prevention efforts targeted for young adults are rare. With a few important exceptions, most programs have been targeted toward adolescents in high school, and these programs generally do not extend to include young adults. Although the reasons for this phenomenon are not clear, the focus of prevention efforts on adolescents may be because they are relatively easy to access in comparison with young adults, who may be working or in college. In addition, persons who design and implement such efforts may not realize that the suicide rate for young adults is substantially higher than the rate for adolescents. The CDC's recommendation from 1994 report was the following: Expand suicide prevention efforts for young adults. The suicide rate for persons in this age group is substantially higher than that for adoles- cents, yet programs targeted toward them are sparse. More prevention efforts should be targeted toward young adults at high risk for suicide.

Fast Foward ten plus years later and we are faced with the same issues. Suicide rate in this age group remains closely the same and programs and places for the young adults to seek help or learn suicide prevention techniques continue to be rare. Another ten years should not continue to go by with these at risk young adults not having somewhere to find strength, empowerment, truth, honor but most of all hope that things will get better.

Project Seth can be the start we need to start engaging and targeting that young adult age group, but we need this website overhaul in order to accomplish it. This website needs to be connected to social media outlets, because as the CDC stated, this group is hard to reach due to working and going to college. In this day and age of technology there is no better way to educate, engage, and connect these young adults, then through this website. Please help Project Seth be the website that speaks to this young adult at risk for suicide population. Once again thank you for your consideration and for helping this non for profit in anyway possible!!!

I support this website for many reasons. Seth was one of my son's bestfriends. What your doing is helping my son work through his pain and keep his friend alive. Thank you for opening your home and hearts to my son and all Seth friends.

Project Seth is simply about trying to get the message out there to as many youth and young adults as possible. In today's society, one of the main avenues to share an important message is through social media. A first class website will allow Project Seth the ability to be an outlet and resource for so many people in need. They will be informed and know they have a support group that is there for them.

Depression and suicide have become so common in today's society, we need to tackle this epidemic head on. Any foundation that is truly about a "cause" is usually a direct reflection of the person, group or idea that the whole foundation was based upon. Seth was a wonderful soul. He was full of love, energy, passion and wanting to make an impact in today's world. His impact and memory is now this foundation. A top notch website will help keep is spirit alive, honor is life and help build his legacy. Reaching and helping people, I am not sure there is a greater deed out there.

"I believe our legacy will be defined by the accomplishments and fearless nature by which our daughters and sons take on the global challenges we face. I also wonder if perhaps the most lasting expression of one's humility lies in our ability to foster and mentor our children". - Naveen Jain

I can't think of any other job where you get the opportunity to say my creative work saved a life today?! Plain and simple your not just doing work for a good cause you are doing work that will LIVE on. You didn't need to know Seth to understand that a true artists work is never done. Any mastermind creating this website should understand from one artist to another, Seth's story is painting a picture that is still not done. He's bringing you an opportunity to keep working on his painting with every life this website could potentially save. Please make this happen!

Many people don't realize how severe suicide is, specifically among the teen and young adult demographic. When you think of suicide, you oftentimes think of celebrities that did too many drugs or athletics that suffered too many concussions and were brain damaged. You hardly ever hear about the young kids, struggling against depression and fighting to survive. These kids are hardly ever seen in the news and no one but grieving family and friends even realize how big of an impact their death has on life.

This website reaches out, reminding these kids that are struggling that there's hope and people who care about their life. If there's anything that is important for a person that's fighting depression and contemplating suicide, it's hope. Hope that someone can hear their muddled thoughts that things are too hard. Hope that someone will be there, saying it's okay and things will get better. Hope that there is someone else going through the same thing...hope that we're not alone. Project Seth is that hope.

In high school, we are provided with counselors and therapists to help us with our struggles. As young adults, we lose that guidance. I've known two people that have committed suicide. And in many ways, these young adults were fun, loving people who struggled with internal demons. If they had some sort of outlet available to them, to provide help and wisdom and communication and hope, perhaps they would still be here today. Project Seth is offering all of this to the community. It's offering that guidance to young adults which is otherwise lost. Seth, and the others we have lost, are worthy of attention.

2015-03-25 04:45:40 UTC

Project Seth is an organization created out of loss of a loved one. The creators of this organization as a result, turned this tragedy into something beautiful. Not only do they promote suicide awareness, they also promote the coming together of the community so no one feels as though they have nowhere else to go. They love all who are a part of the organization and even those they do not know unconditionally and by doing so have also helped me. When I feel alone I know I can turn to them and call them a family. Suicide is not a dismal issue anymore. It has become one of the leading counts of death in the United States. By helping this organization you can also help save lives. I want to live in a world where people no longer no the term suicide. By helping this organization you're helping take the a step towards this goal and towards a brighter future for those suffering with depression.

Suicide happens when pain exceeds resources for coping with pain. Project Seth is a resource needed for not only young adults but anyone who is contemplating suicide. Social media is a way of reaching out for answers to help resolve issues. Project Seth would benefit immensely from a website make-over. With your help the website would be informative, easy to navigate and encouraging. Project Seth was initiated from a tragic loss of a caring, loving young man. Please give Project Seth the hope and attention it warrants .

2015-03-25 12:53:16 UTC

Project Seth is a fantastic resource, a place to help. SO much pain in this world and getting worse with social media and so on. Suicide is a word that needs to be removed from our vocabulary through prevention and help. It will never go away in its entirety but sites like this can help that cause.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death in people 14-25. I fully support this web site because it provides a place for struggling people to find hope. This site offers support, events and a future. Project Seth is amazing and will save lives.

2015-03-27 02:17:44 UTC

I feel blessed that there are people out there that realize how important it is to be honest. Honest about problems, real issues, and things that happen everyday to families. We need to recognize this issue and surround each other with awareness! This website is needed through and through!

Death is a part of life, we all know we are going to end here someday. Sometimes the people around us die from diseases and accidents that are simply impossible to cure or predict. Suicide should never be a part of this list. We cannot sit back and sweep this problem under the rug. The Project Seth website and organization is taking steps in the right direction. Everyone needs to know how to help recognize the signs of depression and get people the help they need. No one should think that suicide is the only way out.

If this website gets the time and attention it not only needs but so absolutely deserves, it has the ability to save lives in the same way a doctor can. The more people that are aware of suicide the more we can all do our part in saving lives.

This is so very important. Who do teenagers and young adults turn to when they don't know what to do about something? Typically, their peers. Who do they turn to when they feel like they don't have a connection with anyone? The internet and social media.

Social media is their number one source of social interaction. Period.

Project Seth needs every resource available to it to help make them available to anyone and everyone that needs someplace or someone to reach out to when they feel like they have no where else turn.

The statistics are alarming. NO ONE should ever feel so alone when there are so many places to turn, and people who care and are willing to do anything to help. Let's EMPOWER PROJECT SETH. What could be worth more than even ONE LIFE SAVED?

2015-03-25 21:25:05 UTC

We need all the help we can get to stop young people from dying.
So sad. Lots of young people don't reach out to parents or friends. This is a way to help them.

Because our youth consumes so much information via the Internet, I see a pressing need for organizations like Project Seth, Ltd., to have a strong Web presence.

Upgrades to the Project Seth, Ltd., site seem essential to reaching the youth of our community and empowering those who wish to participate in a dialogue with the means to share and absorb information.

2015-03-25 21:37:34 UTC

I know these people. They are good folks. Seth was a good kid. This could happen to any one of us as parents or grandparents. Information, education and access is the key to turning the corner of this growing epidemic. Support of this web sight is a no brained if you care about our children's future.

2015-03-25 23:04:14 UTC

It is very important to let someone know that people care. Someone to reach out to, someone to listen.

Recently People magazine covered a suicide story about a troubled young man who killed himself. He had been communicating as many young people do – through texting. The problem was he reached out to someone who did not help his situation and he went through with his claim of taking his life. I cannot speak to the statistics – but I can speak to the reality of a young man taking his life - my nephew. His parents, Brett and Laura Bartosik, in an effort to bring awareness to this growing epidemic created Project Seth along with a website. The Project Seth organization mission is chartered for the purpose of promoting avenues of education, awareness, and to reduce these statistics by providing critical links to professional help. The organization also hosts fund raising events as part of the mission to continue this important work.
In today’s day and age, instantaneous is the norm. Our society and especially our young people are adept at using social media to communicate – this is the preferred choice. Practicality tells us that visitors to Project Seth are seekers of information. We have to assume that this touch point has an impact and has to be useful and relevant to what the seeker is looking for.
What does an optimized website do? A website is a portal and virtual location. A good website will reflect and bring to life its mission and promote its use – aiming to make change a reality. Messaging and content are key elements to communicate and offer positive options. It needs to speak the language and identify with the visitor. It has to be a trustworthy source that instantly provides a professional direction, whether it is to a hotline or other partner of education.
A website that is crafted to mirror the goals and objectives of the mission is crucial in realizing its purpose. A website that utilizes SEO (search engine optimization) can use key words and language that selectively puts it upfront in user searches. Not only navigating to the site, but optimization of the navigating within the site can alleviate frustration of getting the links of help and education efficiently and effortlessly. Aligning and partnering with the help lines are strengthened.
Visitors to the site need an experience that fulfills the reason for the visit. It could be getting education, get help, partake in the cause of fighting suicide in our young people, attend an event that continues awareness, and support ongoing programs. A visitor wants to feel confident of the security of a website, especially in the donor process.
Brett and Laura are taking on this challenge by jumping in and embracing it – but they need help in upping their game. Getting help overhauling the Project Seth website can help them be architects that make change possible. I don’t know the metrics for how many troubled young adults “didn’t or don’t go through with their claim of taking their lives”. Overt behavior is not the only indicator of a person seriously considering taking their life – it is the silence of the internalized pain that is deafening. Even if only one person doesn’t become the statistic, change has taken place.

Every person should feel comfortable going somewhere for comfort...somewhere for guidance...somewhere for direction and understanding. The site, given the expertise can very well provide all the above. The love and care is already here. I cant wait to see everything come together!!

Sucide affects so many young people today, even more than you know. There are kids who would never think about telling someone close to them how they truly feel. This website offers that kind of help and acts as a resource for those who feel they can't reach out to anyone. Being Seth's cousin I was personally affected by his death. By reading other's posts and blogs about suicide, on this website, and personally spreading awareness I have managed to cope with the loss of my cousin. Project Seth has endless opprotunities to offer both suicide survivors and teens struggling with thoughts of suicide. Let Project Seth be the sign someone is looking for to live another day.

2015-03-26 11:12:56 UTC

Think about how powerful it would be if someone without hope clicked on this site and was compelled by what they saw to linger long enough to find possibilities and acceptance instead of hopelessness.

Kudos to these parents for turning a tragedy in something so positive!

2015-03-26 12:54:37 UTC

MWith the input of a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds this website could help prevent some of these tragedies.pull together come up with some ideas it could only help

2015-03-26 00:24:08 UTC

My son's have know half a dozen kids who have committed suicide. My oldest is 20. They're becoming numb to it which is an unfortunate and dangerous thing. This site is critical in the fight to reach kids and adults who struggle daily.

Its hard enough for kids these days ! I can only imagine the pain of loosing a child. God Bless them, This is a worthy cause we need to give them our full support

2015-03-26 02:06:34 UTC

Suicide resulted in 842,000 deaths in 2013 up from 712,000 deaths in 1990. This makes it the 10th leading cause of death worldwide. There are an estimated 10 to 20 million non-fatal attempted suicides every year. Non-fatal suicide attempts may lead to injury and long term disabilities.. Why would you not want to help the cause??

2015-03-26 04:38:42 UTC

I support this website and believe it can help make a difference in the suicide rates. I lost my nephew at a young age due to suicide. Had I known some of the signs maybe i could've made a difference in his life. This website will provide ppl with resources they need to get help & have someone to listen and know their worthy, plus much more.

2015-03-26 12:25:18 UTC

I did not know Seth but I have seen the people who loved him struggle. No one should have to do that, hopefully with the help of this Website other people won't have to go through what Seth went through.

2015-03-26 16:53:39 UTC

Living as a survivor to suicide is not easy, as we can see from the amount of supporters on this site already, teens are in need for a place to vent and offer help. If all it takes is a website to help families and friends, I believe that it's as much of a worthy cause than any.

But with all the websites on the Internet, there is still a need for real help in the world for suicidal teens and adults alike. If the least you can do is smile at a stranger, do it, it might just save a life someday.

2015-03-26 03:34:25 UTC

This website could bring light from tragedy, hope to teens who are suffering, understanding and awareness to those who want to help but don't know how. This community could save lives. It's so important to have these issues talked about openly without judgement and with support and action.

2015-03-26 22:04:26 UTC

People who are suffering need a place to go. Project Seth provides a positive place for people to come and find some answers and some comfort knowing that they are not alone in their thoughts. I fully support Project Seth and all that it offers.

This organization is a great thing, Much needed especially for smaller rural communities like ours. These poeple are doing great things with such passion and I can't think of anybody else more deserving.

2015-03-27 04:54:51 UTC

These young adults, theses kids, these humans with so much potential are often people who are loved so fiercely. Suicide happens when the pain exceeds what you can handle on your own. I know, I've been there and an incredibly crutial part to my healing has been that I had somewhere I could go, friends I could trust and people to support me. Most people view depression as something adults get, but it is plauging our hallways and at every corner of young adults lives. A non-profit like this could help reach so many young lives with so much potential. Save our youth, save our future and save our friends, beacuse sometimes they are the only ones we have.

2015-03-27 11:14:29 UTC

There is no way to escape the pain once a person ends their life. Prevention is the key to healing the pain created by suicide. Project Seth has the potential to be a powerful tool to educate and get help to those in need. It is not just the teachers and parents who need this education, but everyone in society. We need to become aware of the pain that anyone in our lives could be suffering from. Understanding the signs of Depression and having the confidence to approach the subject is an important starting point. Prevention by the way of knowledge and resources...Project Seth has this potential!

In the past month 3 teens in my community committed suicide. Realizing that these kids thought this was their only option really encouraged me to sit down and talk to my girls and so they could process their thoughts and I could find out how they were feeling about what was going on. Before is sat down with my girls I reached out to Laura B, one of the creators of Project Seth for guidance. I was so glad I did, Laura gave me places to direct my girls to if they felt they needed to talk, offered to have some other kids talk to my girls if they wanted to talk and let me know to remind my kids that I understand some times are hard but if they could just see a little further ahead and know they can survive they can get through tough times. I was overwhelmed with Laura's passion and wiliness to be available to both myself and my girls and have no doubt that this website will change/save lives.

Thank you Laura :)

I knew Seth personally, he helped me sort out a lot of me feelings when I first started experiencing my anxiety and suicidal thought. We grew apart after high school but I still thought about him and how he was doing. When I first heard the news, it felt like a part of my life and support system came crashing down, everything I thought I knew. It hurt and to this day I think about him, and still cry. This website helps, it helps us remember him and remember what's important, it gives us that support system that I thought was lost the day he left. It gives us a safe place to find help and people who do care and don't judge us based on thoughts we can't control. If anyone deserves to win, it's project Seth. It's what we want and it's what Seth would have wanted.

I would love to see this succeed as it is not only heartbreaking to think of young adults in such emotional pain that they will take their own lives, but the effects on family and friends is devastating. As a country we have come a long way to cure so many fatal illnesses, but we are really lagging behind in mental illness research, and it touches so many families. With the rise of social media, and the break down of traditional culture, I fear there are so many at risk youth who teeter on mental stability. This is a fabulous cause and I wish them much success.

Not everyone knows the awful feeling that they are all alone. We, as parents, like to believe that our kids will come to us with any problems they are having. We also like to believe that if they don't come to us they will tell a friend and their friend will, hopefully, relay any problems to us. It's just not true. Where does someone turn if they are not comfortable talking directly to people? The internet. Among other things, Project Seth is a welcoming place for those who feel there is nowhere else to go and no one else to talk to. At Project Seth they will see that their lives matter and they are truly loved by everyone and the world is absolutey a better place with them in it. Just like it was when Seth was with us. As a parent I love anything that makes my children happy. Seth was a great friend to my son Ricky and he made him happy, so I loved Seth. That's why his loss has been so hard for everyone. He made us happy and we didn't expect it. The fact that you can help an organization like Project Seth, Ltd. possibly save someones life is extraordinary. Helping them reach many peoples lives and helping prevent tragedy is what Project Seth is all about. Seth made everyone feel special, help Project Seth continue his legacy.

This is what you do not hear when a young person is in need of help.
That is why it is so important to be able to reach out in all forms possible and be able to touch those in need and those of us that may be able to help them!
The suicide monster rears its ugly head way too often and we all need to be more aware of its horrible consequences.
The Project Seth website is one vehicle and means of reaching out to all of those in need as well of those that may be able to comfort and assist in breaking this monster’s back.
Let us all attack and support this effort with all our energy and help Project Seth with every ounce of strength available to us.

Everyone's stigma of mental illness MUST come to an end through education of parents, educators, and the public. Project Seth is just one vehicle by which perhaps just one person can be reached to seek help with how they are feeling, and know they are not alone in this journey--help is out there through websites such as Project Seth. Each one of us must take up the cause to understand and support people with mental illness by recognition of their pain and agony, aiding them with the resources available to assist them get through feeling, making them feel they are deserving human beings to live a full life, starting with the youngest of children through adulthood . The driving force behind the Project Seth website is to save lives, bring to light conversation for this most vulnerable part of the population, and hopefully save a family, friend, and everyone who knows the person the anguish and pain that will be forever felt when a life is taken. Please give Project Seth your utmost consideration for a website makeover.

I fully support this website for a number of reasons. I lost a very close and dear friend to suicide in 2007. Additionally, my son has struggled with depression, suicidal thoughts and has made attempts. This website is vital to anyone struggling and looking to reach out for help. It provides a support system and a place to turn if in need. It will save lives.

As someone who has been there - fighting depression and the thoughts and attempts to take my own life - I know what a website like this can do for someone. One of the hardest and most haunting things of going through the battle I did was feeling like there was nowhere to turn. Nowhere to receive help. No one to understand. Unless, of course, I wanted to be judged or feel embarrassed. A website like this can help someone bypass all of the problems I went through with that. A website like this can give a person somewhere to turn, someone to talk to, somewhere to get the help needed without that judgement. Too many people don't understand the battle, the signs, the suffering, or the deafness that this situation comes with. A website like this can help fix that. I completely support this website and this cause. I want to see kids become what I have, living proof that this horrible situation can be beat. This website and cause can fo that.

What an amazing organization! This is a topic that needs to be talked about more, and Project Seth is doing it in a way that reaches the people that need to be aware of it...the youth!

2015-03-30 14:55:30 UTC

Young people need to know they are not alone. Please help this organization get the support it needs to make a difference.

I can not stress enough my strong feelings and opinions on this world's need for suicide awareness and prevention! This tragedy is everywhere, in every family, in every social class....and why? Because people, and our kids, fear the repercussions of feeling and thinking anything that is not considered "socially acceptable", they are so scared of being judged, embarrassed or shamed for something that is out of their control. Then they wrongly assume it is their only option to stop how they feel! We have failed them and we need to change that now!

I live in a small community and have a relatively small circle of friends, and in the last year alone, 4 young adults that I know, ages 14-19, have attempted suicide.... two were successful. How do we not hold ourselves accountable for these senseless losses? Countless lives affected forever. With all the tragedies and diseases and illnesses in this world, why on God's Green Earth would we not do everything and anything in our power to help these kids that suffer daily? With love, acceptance, and understanding we CAN help, we CAN change the stigma. These struggles have the possibility of being the most treatable and preventable.

I am simply astonished by these parents, the founder's of Project Seth, strength and bravery. To take this truly horrific loss and to not only carry on like they have, but to turn their grief into something so positive and so needed in this world today. How many of us parents could even carry on? No parent should ever bury a child, and to bury one from suicide is simply unacceptable. We, as a society, need to bring awareness to people, because with awareness comes acceptance and understanding and ultimately help for those who are suffering internally.

They are doing what each and every one of us NEED to do... talk about it, stop the judging, teach understanding about depression and mental illnesses, and most of all to make sure EVERY young person knows they are not alone, life is worth living and tomorrow is a new day. We can not stop until every child KNOWS it is alright to express feelings of hopelessness, sadness, loss, family and peer stresses, self-hatred, and the feeling of being alone in this great big world full of loving and caring people. These thoughts and feelings should never bring them shame or embarrassment, any person that they reach out to needs to know how to help or who to get help from. We need to spread the word and not stop until everyone has heard it and everyone teaches it!

Forge on Project Seth, truly remarkable and necessary work!! Everyone of us should be ashamed if we don't stand behind them and support these efforts!

2015-03-30 22:17:08 UTC

Please consider the Project Seth website as an investment in our kids, family and friends future. This touches so many and if it helps just one person, it is a success!

2015-03-31 00:32:10 UTC

Project Seth provides a positive place for people to come and find some answers and some comfort knowing that they are not alone in their thoughts. I fully support Project Seth and all that it offers. This program has been needed for a long time, I am 100% behind this organization!!

Lucas' Mom

As a Mom of a 10 year old boy, who suffers from Bipolar Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, and Sensory Processing, I have spent the last 6 years trying everything I know to get help for my son. Every where I turn I hit dead ends. Either they don't WANT to help, or they don't know HOW to help, or they put a band-aide on the problems and we end up right back where we started from, if not worse! We have spent most of his life being judged for things that are out of his control.
Most insurance companies don't cover help for Mental illnesses, or if they do it is at 50%. Well educated, trained and informed professionals are hard to find, and next to impossible to afford.
For the last 4 years I have been hearing my son express his feelings of despair and self hatred. Sometimes monthly, sometimes weekly, and sometimes daily I hear how he wishes he was dead.... he wants to die....he wants to blow up our house. He wants to stop the torment his brain inflicts on him. He is a smart boy, he is already realizing what verbalizing these feelings has, what he feels, is a negative affect (many times, he has been hospitalized after such episodes at school). I know as he gets older he will stop verbalizing these feelings and take them all on the inside and them them rot him from the inside out. This scares the hell out of me!! With the early onset bipolar diagnosis alone, he has a 25% chance of attempting suicide, that is 1 in 4..... and yes, I know 4 kids with that diagnosis. I go to bed with these awful statistics every night,

I am traumatized from our past and terrified of our future. All I can do is never stop searching for help for my son and praying that when he NEEDS it there are people there that know how to help and are not afraid to talk about it.

Kudos to everyone involved in this Awesome and VERY necessary group!!
I pray others follow in your footsteps. I also pray that everyone sees the magnificent value in what Project Seth is doing and will do!
God Bless

I had major concern that my son mightcommit suicide when he was younger I remember following him around one day keeping an eye on his every move.tuff to get the kids to go get professional help one of the thoughts I have it would be pretty cool if we could find some 23 24 year old guys or girls that might be able to talk to these kidsanyhow anything that anybody does to try to help is a good thing as is this website.

2015-03-31 19:42:22 UTC

My life has been effected by suicide and therefore I admire and respect these amazing people and the difference they can make. Please help them make a difference.

2015-03-31 20:34:09 UTC

I know this family very well and I have seen the devastation it has caused. This is the first time I have dealt with suicide and it has been one of the most painful things I have ever experienced. I know there are many kids out there dealing with the same pain and issue - please help this family get their message across that there are other options than suicide. They want to help these kids! And need all the support than can get. Please help their website.

2015-03-31 20:40:49 UTC

Please help Brett and Laura in their mission to save lives! They lost their only son to this epidemic called suicide. Not one more life needs to be lost! I admire their dedication to this cause. Seth has been gone less than a year and Brett and Laura have working non-stop in making this their mission. They want to help other kids who are lost or need support. They have their family and friends rallied behind them and we will continue to fight to stop this epidemic. Please support them today!

I think this a wonderful way for Brett and Laura to honor there son Seth. The fact that one child or adult can be lost to suicide is way to many. With this website they can help kids of all ages with there thoughts and make them feel wanted and that they matter. We lost a close friend to suicide years ago and wish there was a website like this to help him and us after. Brett and Laura can do just that with the website. They have worked real hard since Seth has been gone and proven that they will continue to work hard to make all that happened matter. A co-workers son just had a very close friend commit suicide a few weeks back and my first thoughts were for Brett and Laura's website and what they have done with Project Seth. Its a wonderful thing and I hope they make it all the way.....

Don't know why suicide is so prevalent in today's society, but for any ans ALL reasons we need the Project Seth Website to be the very best it can.

Please help Project Seth revamp the website to hopefully help many young people cope with their problems.

Thank you so very much.

I'm not the best with this type of stuff so I'm not too sure what to say other than I lost my best friend Seth to suicide and I think the website will give young people hope. It will help them know that people do care and are there for them and that its okay for them to reach out to someone for help. I think the website can really get people involved in the cause and hopefully save lives. Seth was an amazing person that touched so many peoples lives in a wonderful way and now its our turn to be like Seth and make a difference.

2015-04-03 01:00:54 UTC

As a father, I couldnt imagine a day without my kids. This website could help so many struggling people that don't think there's any other options out there. Well, there is. Life is structured of family and friends and a place for young adults to go for support is precious. This is an incredible support group can help so many.

2015-04-03 02:31:45 UTC

Seth was my best friend. It was an unexpected tragedy. Nobody would have guessed suicide would hit this close to home. I don't want anyone else to have to go through something so serious like this. Project Seth is a remarkable organization and it's important that there is a place for young teens like Seth to go where they will be heard. I know it will save people from the depression they cease to be open about. Somebody does care.

2015-04-05 00:18:37 UTC

As the mother of a six year old, the fact that suicide is becoming such and epidemic among young people is terrifying. It makes me sick to think that suicide may become something that happens so frequently it is just accepted and commonplace. With so many things in this world to be fearful of, your child taking their own life should not be one of them.
The work that the organization Project Seth is doing is wonderful. Having a resource for kids to turn to when they are struggling is so necessary. Equipping other teens to be the resource in schools and among their friends is brilliant. The best way to fight a battle is on the battlefield.
Please award Project Seth with the 24-hour website overhaul.

2015-04-04 22:10:56 UTC

Anyone trying to bring awareness to this epidemic, should be applauded and our support is the least we can do. Bringing light to those in the darkest of places.

2015-04-05 15:08:28 UTC

What an immensely important mission for such a necessary and urgent cause! Very deserving of the grant. Keep this beautiful organization going strong with support!

So many young people today are struggling silently with their feelings that only death can take their pain away. They so desperatly need a place to be able to turn to and realize that will only hurt the ones they love and are trying to protect. Death will only cause more pain to their loved ones. If only they could find the love and support that Project Seth is able to offer them before they mistakenly make such a final decision. Hopefully the help that Project Seth is launching will be able to spred the love and compassion that is available before a decision so final is made. God bless these parents that have the strength to be there for others in their time of need. SPRED THE WORD.

2015-04-06 05:11:51 UTC

a worthy cause should be embraced by all not just those effected so closely

2015-04-06 16:10:19 UTC

Please support this cause.

2015-04-06 16:23:54 UTC

This is an awesome webpage that is not only there for kids that are seeking or may need help but it is also a avenue of awareness on the suicide epidemic in young adults that has taken over our nation. I know that this will be a way to see lives saved. I look forward to all the great things Project Seth has in store.

2015-04-06 16:19:34 UTC

2015-04-06 16:08:26 UTC

Project Seth is and will become more of an amazing website will all our support.

This website could help a young adult find help at their lowest moments when they think there is no where else to turn. A great cause!

2015-04-06 18:46:21 UTC

Such a worthy cause!

2015-04-06 19:18:18 UTC

Brett and Laura are the most amazing two people I have met! in such a short
period of time they have already made such an impact on people's lives both
young and old! Making an awareness to many on such a painful topic "siucide"
I Can't Imagine! God bless them for taking a tragic situation and turning it into
Caring and helping others.

2015-04-06 19:49:15 UTC

Project Seth's sole purpose is to SAVE LIVES! What cause is more deserving than saving a LIFE?! I fully support this organization and everything that they are doing to promote suicide awareness. The founders of this organization have committed their lives to help others who are struggling with depression and suicide. What a great cause!!!

2015-04-07 12:59:53 UTC

It's time we put our resources behind a project that will make a difference in so many lives. In this age where teens and young adults are feeling isolated and alone, this website can give them a safe place to connect, share and get the support they need. I can't think of a better way to invest in our future - than to invest in our kids.

2015-04-07 00:07:46 UTC

What a fantastic website! It is so nice to see people who care! I can't think of a more deserving cause!

2015-04-07 01:53:13 UTC

As someone who has struggled with thoughts of suicide and losing a handful of people extremely close to me to suicide I cannot stress the importance of this organization. People need to be more aware of this growing issue and people need somewhere to turn to when times get rough. Project Seth's purpose is to help people and save lives. There is no organization more deserving. I cannot wait to see what Project Seth has in store for the future.

2015-04-07 01:55:12 UTC

I support this organization because I knew Seth and his death really effected our community, this project has really brought us all together through tragedy. It is run by great loving people who have been through so much. Suicide is a growing epidemic and this gives people hope and events to attend and meet people effected by suicide. Maybe then they will see the impact suicide makes and how many people care. This organization is filled with amazing people and each event is so much fun.

2015-04-07 04:32:16 UTC

Unfortunately, many people know first-hand how feelings of despair, hopelessness, or insignificance can lead to a tragic decision to take one’s own life as a means to end the pain. Feeling alone in the struggle can be the strongest issue to overcome. Project Seth can be that resource that connects people in this struggle with the truth- everyone is loved and valued by God, and they are not alone in this battle! A clear and easy to use website that can quickly connect to others with the ability to respond with knowledge and empathy can be an invaluable resource for someone hurting. Project Seth would be a worthy recipient of the Challenge, helping shine light in the darkness where suicide thrives.

Project SETH is doing amazing things for our community. Not only are they getting suicide prevention info out there, they have also created a safe place for young adults to come to and be real and honest. Brett and Laura have taken what is a tradegy and made it into something beautiful not only to help the community but also to honor Seth and what he lived for - making others feel like they mattered and were important. This organization carries on Seth's memory and the most awesome aspect of having this website makeover isn't that the organization would get a cool, user friendly look, but it would help save lives and support our community.

2015-04-07 01:40:40 UTC

This organization absolutely NEEDS this makeover. Project SETH is all about helping others. With this makeover project SETH would be able to save lives.

2015-04-07 05:15:09 UTC

At the age of 17 I lost a dear, dear friend to suicide, the day before he turned 18. Eight years later I lost my 29 year old husband to suicide. There was no where for them to turn, no where to ask for help. Suicidal thoughts are not something you talk about. Project Seth is aiming to change that. To give these kids somewhere to turn, someone to reach out to for help. A makeover of the site will give them the ability to navigate the site easier. It will give people the ability to find events and ways to donate. But most importantly, it may just give someone, in that one moment they need it most, the ability to get to the resources they need.

2015-04-07 13:30:05 UTC

What can be more worthwhile than saving a life? This is a great cause to support and I'm glad I was asked to be a part if it.

2015-04-07 18:28:09 UTC

Project Seth has the potential to affect many lives.

2015-04-08 11:16:18 UTC

The First Lady, Michelle Obama, recently gave her backing to a program to increase awareness of the Mental Health needs of youth in our society. Project Seth beat her to the punch in Dekalb County. Project Seth is a grassroots organization with national potential. Their website reconstruction would be one more tangible step in their mission of ending youth suicide.

WOW! What a great opportunity! An opportunity to receive a much needed website upgrade!!

..oh,wait...that didn't come out right...

Project Seth already has a GREAT website!

What I meant was - It's a GREAT opportunity for a VOLUNTEER group of the Nerdery to show all of the Sethtastic followers how much
"Kick-assed-ness" they can throw at us!
...'Git the big guns out boys and girls...!
(Pretty Please & Thank You)

Project Seth is trying to fill a void that we all have become heart-breakingly aware of. A void that needs to be filled with Awareness, Acceptance, and Understanding.

Project Seth is trying to create a nurturing environment that much resembled Seth's attitude of "all are welcome"

Activities like the 48+ hour Scavenger Hunt, Halloween Party, The Chili Cook-off, are all meant to get people (young and old(er)) together in both rememberance and for continuous awareness that suicide IS preventable!

Contact links, both local and national, and upcoming events to raise awareness of, and donations for suicide prevention are all available on the site! *Plus, check out the Sunglasses, man!!!*
(Whoever did that KICKS ASS !!)

The sign-up for activities,donations/prizes and waivers could certainly be streamlined with a great web update.
(When you need a WAIVER for a Scavenger Hunt, YOU KNOW IT'S GONNA BE FUN !!)

SETH says it all..

EVERY kid affects us ALL! Some are just unsure as to how DEEPLY...

Project Seth is making a difference!

Anytime you can get young adults together, they tend to have "some" fun (unless the Chili is too damn hot, DUSTIN !!).
It keeps everybody talking, no one is left out!

Please,oh Nerdery please, help this wonderful crew out! They have done an amazing job putting all of this together and they would love to see how you could make their efforts shine even brighter!

Please!! & Thank You!

The Project Seth website is very important to the Dekalb County Community because it provides a place for young people to go to share their feelings about troubles in their lives with other young people going thru similar experiences and that is "priceless". Terry Ryan wlbk

If this site was created, it would make a difference in so many lives by offering numerous resources! The site could save so many lives and also comfort families affected by depression and suicide. It's important to break the silence and get the word out there that others are not alone!

As a teenager I intended to end my life. I tried, but did not succeed and I am thankful everyday that I did not. Resources like Project Seth were not available then to reach out to. Life is a gift worth saving. Project Seth is committed to helping those who don't feel their life is worth living. There is hope. Reach for it. Project Seth will save lives!!!!!

2015-04-11 16:30:37 UTC

You didn't have to personally know Seth to be in some way affected by the effects of suicide. We all know of someone indirectly or directly, who has suffered inside & chosen to take their life. People who make this life-ending, permanent action feel they have no other choice. This website can help so many struggling young people get through these low points in their lives. Please help this website become the touch point for these youth, a non-judgemental, 24/7 place they can visit. This website could really save people's lives.

2015-04-12 15:19:54 UTC

I absolutely support this website. Teens often feel like they're all alone, and if Project Seth can counter that even a little bit, they will do a world of good.

Our youth have so much to offer and sometimes the feelings of despair and hopelessness overcome their strength to fight for their own future and see another day. The 24-hour Web Challenge offers knowledge and artistry allowing Project Seth to gain the momentum to impact more than ever thought possible when Project Seth began last August. Look At This Support. The Nerdery and Project Seth can give those in need HOPE and those close to them as well.

Twenty four hours can equal one life-saving second.

2015-04-12 13:27:59 UTC

Please help us reach out, engage, and offer hope to those in need. Please help us save lives. Thank you for using your skills and interests in such positive ways.

2015-04-12 13:45:47 UTC

What an important resource this website could be. This could one day help someone very close to you. Someone you didn't know was going through a difficult time, but that needed to know that there are people who care deeply and want to help. I fully support this noble cause and sincerely believe that it could help prevent another tragedy.

2015-04-12 13:55:58 UTC

The need for a safe and unjudging place for teens and young adults to turn with resources and understanding is definitely needed. Many OD's appear to be results of people not knowing where else to turn but the escape they hoped to find in drugs.

My niece committed suicide several year a go. The entire family was devastated. Nobody realized she was this bad off mentally. She thought life not worth living because a young man broke off their romantic relationship. We all missed the signs that she was so distraught . I think that family members experiencing situations like this should try and be more Attentive to the needs of other loved ones.

Had a missionary friend in Africa who lost two boys. He wrote me & said he could not understand it but when he gets to heaven he would ask Jesus why, & knew he would understand then. May God comfort you until then

Suicide is a personal tragedy for anyone who has experienced the death of a friend or family member. It is particularly distressing when it is the suicide of a young person. I hope that your web project is instrumental in saving many lives that were in danger of being lost.

This is an extremely worthy cause and I wish you all the best and a lot of success with your website!

It is time for mental illness to be recognized as an illness that can be treated by insurance companies as well as the general public. Everyone needs to be educated as to the signs that someone is suffering so much that they are considering suicide, then be willing to get involved. Involvement may mean talking to the person yourself and helping them find resources that can help. You may need to go with the person. It may mean telling another person if you feel you can't do it yourself. This cannot be kept a secret.
This website has the potential to help many. However, we must all do our part.

There are no words to ease the pain ......
My friends are giving back to the community in hopes that no other parents have to experience what they are going through. They truly deserve this support.

A great website and a terrific cause. Teenage suicide should just not be an option. It wrecks so many lives.

If this web-site saves the life of even one person, it'll be worth every second and every dollar spent on it.

Our family lost someone to suicide last year. My youngest was best friends with him, although everyone in this family loved him and knew him well. I think we should try to throw the stigma of mental health issues out the window. I feel alone when it has to do with mental health. Diabetes, ok. Your aloud to talk about that. Cancer, your free to speak your mind. Umm...anything else except...anxiety, depression, bipolar ect. SHHH! And this is where it gets us. suicide.

A much needed support network for those that suffer from the inside. I'm certain that Project Seth will increase both awareness and acceptance of mental illness.

A much needed resource! I agree with so much of what has been said thus far - we need to open the dialogue about mental health issues, eliminate the stigmas, and lift each other up!

Our Mission

To help reduce and ultimately eliminate suicide in young adults. We envision a world without the devastating effects of suicide in the young adult population by empowering young adults to know and recognize at risk young people. We want to equip young adults with the tools and resources to seek immediate help from reliable and effective local resources. We are passionate in the belief young adults should feel nurtured, supported, and place emphasis on their self-worth.
